Abstract

The notebook documents the work of J. Edward Hoffmeister in Mango Island, part of the Lau island group [Fiji] while working for the Bernice P. Bishop Museum, 1934. The volume begins with a narrative description of the island's geography, notes on other scientists' interpretations of the island's geography, and field work. Notes on field work describe routes traveled, sketches, characteristics of terrain observed, barometric readings, descriptions of specimens collected (identification, location where collected, specimen number, and remarks). There are notes in the back of the volume about specimens to send to Harry [Ladd].
