Abstract

The volume documents the field work of Ray Bassler in Glade Springs to Saltsville, Lexington to Goshen, Staunton, Virginia, July, 1905; field trips, 1904-1917, and Morristown, Tennessee, 1906. The volume begins with a list of notes and a list of rock samples sent for analysis. Dated entries are narrative in structure, describing location, terrain, geological characteristics (color and composition), presence and kind of fossils found including coral, and sketches with notes. Locations are sometimes sections along railroad lines or factory. Locations also include Covington, Virginia. Notes relating to various field trips are described as a list of trips, including date and route, most of which are long the eastern United States. Bassler writes from the front and the back of the volume. Includes a list of photographs taken and notes on Wells Creek Basin, Tennessee, June 1906.
