Abstract

The notebook documents the field work of Axel A. Olsson in Cuba, Costa Rica, and Panama, May 1 - June 17, 1917. Entries are dated and narrative in structure; content varies. They discuss travel details, descriptions of destinations in the field, activities in preparation for field work, list of types of shells found, and geological characteristics of terrain. Several entries describe kinds of birds observed, listing scientific and common name, followed by description as well as references to plants seen. There is a separate list of Darien fossils. Also includes a recipe for sponge cake and coffee cake.
