Abstract

The notebook documents field work of Axel A. Olsson. Also includes a small collection of field notes relating to work of W. P. Woodring in 1917 in Torosi, and correspondence relating to the provenance of the field book after Olsson's death. Entries relating to Costa Rica include detailed sketches of area geology, detailed narratives, lists of fossils found, and observations of geological characteristics of terrain (color, shape, composition, age). Notes are sometimes organized by station number. There is a pasted insert newsclipping from 1556 relating to Costa Rican unions. Loose sheets include a list of Panama and Costa Rica localities and letter from Richard E. Petit, to Mr. Warren Blow, who sent the field book the The Naitonal Museum of Natural History.
