Abstract

James Arthur Peters' field notes on reptilian and amphibian specimen collected in Ecuador over a 5 year period from 1954-1959. These are unbound notes. Peters provides a detailed narrative description of his travels and the surrounding landscape. Often included in his entries are dates, air temperatures, water temperatures of nearby water sources, and elevation. Peters traveled through numerous locations in Ecuador including collecting near the Pichincha volcano. Also included are notes on expenses, checklist, annotated list of photographs taken, sketch of a waterfall in Pichincha called "la chorrera", and specimen list with locations. Many of the specimen's local names are recorded, as well. There are also summary lists of specimen collected. Specimen listed by genus under the broader categories of "Frogs", "Lizards", "Snakes", and "Turtles". Some specimens are described in more detail (sex, length and other information) toward the end of the notes.
