Abstract

In the letter from H. K. Coale to Robert Ridgway, dated January 25, 1885, sent from Chicago, Illinois, Coale references his series of specimens of genus Hylocichla, which were sent to Ridgway. Duplicates in the series were meant to be kept by the National Museum (USNM). The letter includes a description of Coale's technique for positioning the legs for preservation. It also includes a specimen list with specimen number, sex, name, collector (H.K.C., J.L.H.), location (Cook County, Illinois, and Stark County, Indiana), date (September 27, 1881 through September 20, 1884), and measurements.
