Abstract

The color illustration depicts the head and neck of a Butorides virescens (Green Heron). A note accompanying the illustration states the colors indicate a fresh example killed in the spring of 1864 at Mount Carmel, Illinois, by R. R. The note indicates the original color of the eye has been soiled.
