Abstract

The folder includes two letters to Robert Ridgway from Walter Brett concerning Phalacrocarax, and an unrelated sketch and description of P. graculus. The letter dated July 20, 1891, sent from Lake County, California, describes the location (Clear Lake) and date (July 10, 1891) of collection of several specimens listed as Phalacacorase. The letter describes the specimen colors in great detail, plus sex, specimen number, and measurements for each. Longitude, latitude and altitude of collection location is also included. The letter dated August 13, 1891, sent from Lake County, California, describes two specimen of Phalacrocorax sent to Ridgway for the purpose of further defining the geographical range of the species. The black-and-white illustration, dated August 8 (no year listed), depicts the head and neck of P. graculus, as well as a sketch of 3 specimen perched on rocks. Notes on the illustration describe feathers, skin, and toes. Location is indecipherable.
