Abstract

The field book and loose note document the work of Charles L. Gazin in the Huerfano Basin of Colorado and Bridger Basin of Wyoming, July 10 - September 8, 1947. The notebook states it documents the "1947 Expedition to Huerfano Basin, Colo. and Bridger Basin, Wyo., 176557, Coll. of 426 specimens". It contains a specimen list that details specimen number (1-142), description, collector (C.L.G., C.L.G.Jr., G.F.S., F.P.), date (July 15 - September 8), and locality. Locality description varies in length, and is sometimes very detailed. One narrative passage describes Gazin's travel from Washington, DC, to the University of the South in Swanee, Tennessee, to meet with Dr. McCrady. Gazin arranged for the National Museum to prepare McCrady's specimen of jaguar bones. McCrady would describe them, then the Museum would keep the materials when McCrady finished the study. The narrative then details Grazin's further travels from Tennessee to Colorado and on to Wyoming, detailing locations of camps. A loose note lists box numbers and specimen numbers, which is similar information as listed in a separate page of the notebook.
