Abstract

The 33 black-and-white photographs document field work completed on Jarvis Island, June 1968. Sixteen photographs taken by C. D. Hackman show several Sooty Tern colonies, a group of 25-30 cetaceans off the coast of the island, several Red-tailed Tropicbirds on nests in vegetation (Lepturus) on the beach, a Red-tailed Tropicbird on nest in the interior of the island near vegetation (Sesuvium and Lepturus), a plaque commemorating a shipwreck on the island, vegetation (Sesuvium and Lepturus) near Sooty Tern colony, and several Sooty Terns near nests in vegetation (Sesuvium and Lepturus). Seventeen photographs taken by R. B. Clapp show a Red-tailed Tropicbird on a nest in Lepturus, several coastline views of island from lighthouse, a Brown Booby nest with 3 eggs, a Sooty Tern colony, anomalous Great Frigatebird nest with egg, a Great Frigatebird nesting area near guano pits, a Great Frigatebird female and a Lesser Frigatebird female on nests side by side, Lesser Frigatebird nest with 2 young, Great Frigatebird nest with egg next to a Lesser Frigatebird nest with young, nesting Great Frigatebirds next to nesting Lesser Frigatebirds. The images have captions on the reverse side that list location, date, photographer, description, and negative numbers (669, 670, 678, 682, 687, 689, 692, 693, 697, 698, 700, 713, 714, 716, 723, 736, 141A, 165A, 166A, 176A, 181A, 182A, 187A-190A, 193A, 194A, 200A, 206A, 210A, 212A, 217A). The photographs taken by R. B. Clapp also include unknown identifiers (e.g. J20)
