Abstract

The field book documents Frank C. Whitmore's field work in Big Bone Lick, Kentucky, during the summers of 1963 - 1966. Some pages are numbered (1 - 14). Entries vary in content. Some are dated and headed with location, listing miscellaneous notes and sections detailing depth, layer characteristics (color, composition). There is a list of screening samples with specimen number (e.g. W-##-#) and description; photographs taken with captions; sediment samples; details about specimens taken; and field plans. There are sketches of landscapes.|Toward the end of the notebook there is a description of exploration of pits dug by L. L. Ray and Ellis Crawford, July 22, 1966. Descriptions are listed per each numbered pit. There are notes on bones in collections at Brooks Museum in Charlottesville, Virginia.
