Abstract

The field book documents Frank C. Whitmore's summer field work in Massachusetts, 1959 - 1966. Pages are numbered (1-26). Entries are dated and describe bone location (surroundings, notes referring to landmarks including area structures, notes of explanation), sometimes area terrain, description of specimens (type, quantity, characteristics, size, condition, age), sections with layer descriptions. There are lists of specimens collected that detail specimen number (e.g. W-##-#) and short description of type and location. Some entries include sketches to clarify location description or hand drawn maps. There are miscellaneous notes through out, some may possibly refer to contacts who are local inhabitants; note specimen holdings in collections that may be of interest; and photographs taken with captions. There is a section of Gay Head Cliffs, "after Shaler 1890."
