Abstract

The field notes document the ornithological field work of Joshua F. B. Camblos in Virginia. Time and location include 1932-1939 (includes egg collecting at Big Stone Gap, Parramore Island, and Wachapreague, 1932-1936; nesting of Bald Eagles in Princess Anne County [now part of Virginia Beach], 1937-1939; bird observations, 1932-1938). Notes are a mix of handwritten and typed, and there are a wide variety of information and formats. These include but are not limited to a list on Camblos's egg collection that list type of bird (common and scientific name), A.O.U. No., and date; quotes from texts; table of data headed by date and list type (common name), no., no. in set, inc., size, date, location (includes additional location about landmarks e.g. old reservoir); descriptions of eggs collected that list name, date, no., inc., sizes, situation ("situation" describes habitat, vegetation, nest composition where collected); journal entries from series of trips to observe the nesting of bald eagles in Princess Anne County, Virginia; miscellaneous descriptions of migrating birds, nests of young, etc.; table of average sizes and date when fresh eggs may be obtained in the state of Virginia (with maps).
