Abstract

These black and white photographs mounted on board pertain to Stejneger's extensive study of the fur seals of the North Pacific-Bering Sea. Many of the photographs are dated July or August of 1896. Depicted in these photographs are fur seals, fur seal drives, geographic features, villages, sled dogs, and people. Locations depicted include Robben Island, Kamchatka (Mt. Velienchinski, Petropavlovsk), Bering Island, officially called Ostrov Beringa (North and South Rookery, and Copper Island, officially called Ostrov Mednyy (Glinka and Karabelni). Some or all of these images may be published.
