PrintThe black-and-white photographs document field work on KcKean Island, Kiribati, October 1963. Images have captions on the reverse side listing location, description (sometimes additional location information), date (range), and possibly photographer's initials. Some photographs were taken by Roger Clapp. Subject matter covers candid images of participants at work including skinning birds (D. A. Bratley, F. C. Sibley), individual and groups of birds of various ages (Lesser Frigatebird, Red-footed Booby, Fairy Tern, Blue-gray Noddy, Hawaiian Noddy, Greater Frigate, Shearwater, Red-tailed Tropic Bird), nests and colonies, terrain (rock rubble, central lagoon), remains of guano industry, vegetation (sesuvium). Some images are from Canton Island [Kanton] including accommodations and habitat.
