PrintThe black and white photographs document field work on Sand - Johnston Island for the Pacific Ocean Biological Survey Program, August 20, 1968. Photographs were taken by Vernon M. Kleen. On the reverse side of the photographs are captions listing date, location, description, and photographer's initials. Subject matter includes terrain across the island including barracks, vegetation (identified and location specified with landmarks), birds (some identified with type and age), 12 images of island terrain taken clockwise from utility pole, and numbered plots. Captions for images of numbered plots include counts of birds, listing age and type (Sooties, Common Noddies, Great Frigatebirds).
