Abstract

The 2 notebooks document William Dunlop Brackenridge's botanical collecting efforts in the Hawaiian Islands during the United States Exploring Expedition Collection, 1838-1842. Pages are numbered. The notebooks are lists of observed plants. May include collected specimens. Details include name of the plant, physical description, location found, sometimes information about terrain (i.e. woods, mountains, ), and whether an introduced species. There are references to Samoa, Tahiti, and Tonga. Locations referenced included Lanai, Oahu, Maui.|The second notebook includes lists of plants in area in and around craters at: Sunday Station, Puna, and Mauna Roa. Plant lists are completed, and headed by location. These include but are not limited to: Pahuhali, Lahaina, Wailuku, Diamond Head, Honolulu, and Waianae.
