Abstract

This item consists of the photocopied field notes of Robert S. Standen from his work with the Pacific Ocean Biological Survey in October 1964. The notes document bird observation, banding, and collection activities on Palmyra, Fanning (Tabuaeran), and Christmas Islands and while at sea on the Charles H. Gilbert cruise. Some geographic coordinates are included. Standen also discusses coconut palm trees and copra and includes reflections on indigenous people and their knowledge of the environment.
