Abstract

The 4 notebooks document William Dunlop Brackenridge's botanical collecting efforts in Peru during United States Exploring Expedition Collection, 1838-1842. The notes are undated. The notebooks contain a list of plants observed (possibly collected). There are reference to specific plants not collected. Entries are listed by scientific or common name, and details include a description, and addition comments. Some of these comments refer to location, environment, length, whether common, whether a introduced species, if seeded, and how they might be used (whether planted or considered a weed). Locations in the notebooks are listed per book and are in the vicinity of the province, town, or river listed. The First notebook covers Rio Negro, Yanga, Callao, and Lima. Second notebook covers Amancas, Obrajillo, Yanga, Lima, Callao, Rimac River. Third notebook includes Obrajillo, Baños, and Alpamarca. Fourth notebook includes Obrajillo, Baños, and Alpamarca.
