Abstract

The diary primarily documents Andrew Caudell's work during January 1 - December 21, 1922, but also includes notes and entries from 1916 and 1923, usually describing specimens. These include specimen number, binomial, and description with location, circumstances when collected, state of development, and appearance. Most entries are typed, though some from 1916 and 1923 are handwritten. Entries are generally dated and describe daily work, field work, personal activities, determinations, descriptions of insect traps (with sketches), conversations with colleagues, and breeding experiments. He describes field work with details about location, environment, sometimes vegetation, type of insect and sometimes appearance. Field work is completed in the vicinity of the District of Columbia, including Maryland and Virginia.
