Abstract

The diary documents Andrew Caudell's daily work during 1916 - 1917. Dated entries describe collecting trips, lab work, some personal activities, as well as work of and with colleagues. Specimen numbers are written in the margins next to narrative. Sometimes entries describe insect behavior in the wild. Collecting trips often give details about weather and environment. Descriptions of insects usually include appearance and state of development. There are some specimen lists with number, type, and age. Collecting took place around museum facilities, District of Columbia, Virginia, and Maryland including Plummers Island.
