Abstract

These original photographs mound on mounted and with captions pertain to Stejneger's extensive study of the fur seals of the North Pacific-Bering Sea area. The photographs show fur-seal rookeries, fur seals, local people, the way of life on the fur-seal islands, and general geological features on Nikolski (officially Nikol’skoye), Bering Island (officially Ostrov Beringa) and Copper Island (officially Ostrov Mednyy). Some or all of these images may be published. Many of the photographs are dated August and September 1895. Also includes 3 contemporary prints of one photograph.
