Abstract

The dictabelt is a recording of Helmut Buechner's field notes for work completed in the vicinity of Lugari [Lugare], Kenya, June 23 - 26, 1959. Observations are primarily of kob and giraffe. Buechner includes date of each entry, followed by detailed narratives with names of colleagues with whom worked, local staff, and the process of measuring and tagging kob. Much of the description centers on method of apprehending kob, including type and amount of sedative used and the individual kob's reactions to the drug over periods of time. He also describes observation sites, vegetation in vicinity (sometimes listed with scientific name), and interactions with local ranchers. Observations of herds and individual kob sometimes include behavior or interaction, time of day, age, and sex.
