Abstract

The field notes document Helmut Buechner's work with an elephant census in Uganda, 1957 - 1962. Materials are a combination of typed and written notes, tables of observation data on herds and their contents (number of calves etc.), correspondence relating to research issues, copied sections from reference texts, 2 maps of buffalo and elephant distribution in Park between Butiaba and Pakanyi (1957), tables on weather, results of aerial elephant counts, progress report (for Murchison Falls National Park [Kabalega Falls National Park] and vicinity, Uganda), and typed daily field notes for January - December 1957 and August 1959. Field notes relate weather, terrain, herd observations (some are aerial), and photographs taken.
