Field notes, 1949 - 1950

Abstract

The bound volume contains typed field notes of Helmut Buechner, November 7, 1948 - 1950. Title does not include 1948. Also includes notations, newsclippings, correspondence with notations, and hand colored maps with notes relating to animal populations. The book begins with a table of contents covering general notes, mammals (general, elk, mule deer, whitetail deer, mountain goat, college committee of research), birds (general, grouse, Hungarian partridge, ringneck pheasant, quail, waterfowl). Notes include a combination of dated entries or entries organized by type of animal. These entries include a varying combination of information: observations of travel details, notes on participants, temperature and weather, birds seen with quantity and sometimes gender, observations of types of mammals seen (combination of type, quantity, gender, age, time of day, elevation, behavior, appearance) including their environs (area vegetation), terrain including erosion. There are also tables of observation data for game and fowl. There are notes on a wide variety of activities including samples of scat and collected, animals killed, and forage clip plots. Locations are through out Washington.
