Abstract

The field book documents geological observations of F. B. Meek during David Dale Owen's surveys, July - November 1848. The notebook begins with a list of shells from the Saint Croix lake and river with number and type, followed by partial itinerary with dates and destinations, April - August, 1848. These notes are followed by dated journal entries (July 30 - November 6) describing travel details, temperature and weather, campsites, routes, specimens collected (including trilobites), work completed, survey participants, vegetation observed, types of stone and other geological features, terrain, and variety of descriptions of visited communities. Includes sketches of stratigraphy. A portion of the notebook is blank. At the end of the notebook is a table of data including date, time, al, det(?). read, bar, feet. Locations include sites in Minnesota.
