Abstract

This item consists of a folder of data collected at sea in 1965 by the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries (BCF) aboard the Townsend Cromwell, as part of the Pacific Ocean Biological Survey Program. The cruise covered a fixed grid to the east of the main Hawaiian Islands. Materials include: bird observation sheets, position and distance data, and At Sea Survey Chart C. Bird observation sheets include time, species, #, dir., hgt., remarks, and loc. Remarks include physical descriptions of birds (colors, size, maturity), flock size, and behavior (sitting on water, feeding, etc.). Abundance summary data for birds includes total abundance of birds, and abundance of bird groups (Shearwater-Petrel-Albatross group, Tropicbirds, etc.). At Sea Survey Chart C includes recorded time, lat., long., pres wea, vis, slp, dry b, wet b, dew pt, hum%, tl sky, opa sky, waves, sea temp, wind s, wind d, course, speed. Also included is a photocopy of a typed report.
