Abstract

The field book documents geological observations of F. B. Meek during David Dale Owen's surveys, June 26 - July 30, 1848. Notes describe weather, temperature, travel details, terrain (and elevation), geological landmarks, observations of vegetation including abundance, campsites, interactions with Indigenous populations ("Indians"), geology, interactions with survey participants, fossils collected, and observations of local inhabitants. There are notes and sketches of stratigraphy at the end of the notebook. Also includes a loose insert with journal entries for June 29, 1848. Locations include sites in Minnesota.
