Close
PrintThe field book documents geological observation of Kentucky, 1846. Pages are numbered. The notebook begins with an index and miscellaneous notes some of which appear to be for reference purposes. These list stone types followed by description of characteristics. Notes are followed by field notes for August 22 - October 1, 1846, that describe travel details, locations, geological characteristics observed (type of stone, formations, stratigraphy), and terrain. These are followed by descriptions of earthquakes around the world as well as formations in Ohio and Mississippi. In the back are notes on a weather event in 1846 ("singular electrical phenomenon"). The are sketches and illustrations of geological formations with notes.
