PrintThe correspondence documents Henri F. Pittier's botanical field work in the Panama Canal Zone. He began working for the Isthmian Survey and remained in Panama after it ended, collecting for the Smithsonian Institution. Much of the correspondence relates to expenses, payments, specimen shipments, staffing, and other logistics. Includes a letter from Pittier in which he describes the terrain and vegetation observed during fieldwork at El Boquete and valley of Caldera River. He details type of plants, their abundance relating to elevation, and route traveled during the trip.
