Abstract

The field book documents geological fieldwork completed by August Foerste. Dates are not included, and location information is not clear. Inside the front cover is a map of the coast of Massachusetts. The map is annotated, indicating route and possibly sites. Pages are numbered. Entries are headed with alpha-numeric identifiers, followed by narratives that detail observations of terrain including references to local landmarks and geological characteristics (type of stone, layer composition and color, geological age). There are several sketches / maps of terrain on the verso of notes. A portion of the notebook is blank.
