Abstract

This item consists of the original field diary of F. A. McClure, from a trip to Hainan (China), 1921. The folder contains one bound journal with narrative entries, and one typewritten list of numbers (undated). The numbers listed include 53B through 1600 (no additional information provided). The diary includes McClure's daily entries from October through December 1921. Entries include long narrative accounts of daily activities including collecting plants, and reflections on local life and culture. Mentions collecting of grasses, orchids, and wild banana. The diary includes small sketches throughout, depicting rough forms of people and animals, and sketches of rooms and houses (showing layout). The cover of the diary has a note that says "First attempt to reach peak of Five Finger mountains - Dec. 14".
