Abstract

The 2 notebooks document geological fieldwork completed by August Foerste in Kentucky. Notebooks are undated. The first notebook includes entries that are headed with location information (combination of county, town, geological and other landmarks, sometimes name of owners, distance from) followed by descriptions of terrain. Sometimes these include geological sections with measurements, composition and color of layers (including type of stone), and presence of fossils. Includes lists of numbered (sometimes alpha-numeric) locations with descriptive narratives. There are two loose inserts dividing the notebook. The second notebook includes the same type of content. Entries were recorded from the front and the back of the notebook.
