The notebook documents geological fieldwork completed by August Foerste in Kentucky and Indiana and Ohio, circa 1914. Some entries are headed with name of county with lists of numbers and locations indicated by geological and other landmarks, followed by description of soil. Others are headed with town and include geological sections with measurements, and characteristic of layers. There are narratives describing terrain of observed locations that indicate fossils were collected.
