Abstract

The notebook documents geological survey field work of August Foerste in New Jersey, September - November 1891. On the cover he notes that the field book accompanies a map with localities and "examination of Cambrian along to border of Archean Highlands from Hamburg to S. of Andover, NY." There are notes on the inside of the front cover listing page numbers of fossil discoveries. Pages are numbered. Entries describe terrain characteristics including type of stone and geological time, whether fossils are found, location information including geological landmarks and latitude and longitude (magnetic). There are sometimes sketches or hand drawn maps on pages' verso.
