PrintThe logbook document of the Albatross conditions of stations AA1 - D5672, August 26, 1899 - December 30, 1909. Listed details vary in content depending on the voyage and year. All include date station number and location information, usually latitude and longitude. Some also include character of station, time of day commenced, time of day finished, depth (fathoms), surface temperature, bottom temperature, appliances used, result, and remarks. Remarks describe characteristics of bottom, issues with equipment (thermometer), additional information about location (sometimes latitude and longitude and reference to geographic location). Some entries do not include the full range of information but additionally indicate true or magnetic bearing. When information is entered for a new voyage, sometimes the route will be written at the top of the page and additional destinations listed at the top of subsequent pages. Destinations are sometimes indicated with island name (in case of Hawaiian Islands). Includes loose inserts headed with station number and details. A portion of the notebook is blank. Locations include Hawaii, California, Alaska, and Sea of Japan.
