Abstract

Original logbook of the Fish Hawk covers December 10, 1915 to January 28, 1916, station record numbers 8399 to 8449. The logbook includes and additional title, "rough dredging record." Logbook includes fields for station number, date, hour, position (latitude and longitude), locality, depth, bottom, sample, wind (direction, force), sea, sky, temperatures (depth, thermometer, reading, stem temp, correction, correction temp, w. sample, bottle used), current (depth, hour, tide, time down, revolutions, speed, direction), color of water, transparency, remarks, nets used etc. (description, depth, time down, time up, speed) and notes. Data is not filled in for currents. Remarks include notes on course. Includes loose inserts on stations. There are sometimes notes on tides or dredging. Locality: along the coast of Maryland and Virginia in the Chesapeake Bay, including Bloody Point, Baltimore, Rappahannock, Smith Point, Sandy Point, and others.
