Abstract

Original logbook of the Fish Hawk, 11 September 1894 to 14 September 1895, station record numbers 1899 to 1927. "Record of dredging, temperature and density" data include station number, date, time of day, time of tide, locality, exact position, depth, nature of bottom, dredging instrument used, direction of (drift, distance), temperature of (air, surface water, at depth of, at bottom), density at (surface water, at depth of, at bottom), number of salinometer, barameter reading, state of sky, direction of (wind and force), rain, direction of (surface current and force, bottom and force), name of vessel, service to which attached, name and rank of commanding officer, name and position of observer, and notes relating to station number. Notes sometimes include lists of specimens collected including quantities. Observers: James A. Smith, Mate USN, and C. H. Cleaveland, Mate USN. Locality: Vineyard Sound, Buzzards Bay, Chesapeake Bay, and Long Island Sound.
