Abstract

Original logbook of the Fish Hawk covers January 15 - February 18, 1914, station record numbers 8000 to 8047. These include data relating to temperature and density recorded during dredging. Data recorded includes date, time of day, tide, locality, exact location (latitude and longitude), depth, nature of bottom, dredging instrument used, direction of drift, distance, temperature (of air, surface water, bottom), density of surface and bottom, number of salinometer, barometer reading, state of sky, direction of wind, name of observer, and position of observer. Some fields do not contain data, including salinometer, direction of current, and density of water. Position of observer is listed as latitude and longitude. Observer is not listed. Some entries include a variety of additional notes relating to dredging including time of day, depth, and activities on the verso. Locality: Chesapeake Bay including areas in vicinity of Cape Charles City, Point Lookout, and Severn River.
