Abstract

Original logbook of the Fish Hawk covers June 22 -25, 1913, station record numbers 7900 to 7922. There is a note on the cover stating stations are between Galveston and Mobile and, "incl. special investigations in cooperation with U.S. Geological Survey." These include data relating to temperature and density recorded during dredging. Data recorded includes date, time of day, tide, locality, exact location (latitude and longitude), depth, nature of bottom, dredging instrument used, direction of drift, distance, temperature (of air, surface water, bottom), density of surface and bottom, number of salinometer, barometer reading, state of sky, direction of wind, name of observer, and position of observer. Not all fields include data (density of surface and number of salinometer). There are notes on the verso on salinity and distinguishing marks. A portion of the log book is blank. Observer was J. J. O'Brien, listed as Boatswain, U.S. Navy. Locality: Gulf of Mexico and mouth of Mississippi River.
