Abstract

The journal documents the mammal collecting of C. O. Handley in Panama and Bocas del Toro, February 21 - May 19, 1990. Entries are dated and begin with location or route. Notes in the margins include contact information, notes on wildlife, etc. They discuss contemporary Panamanian issues (Noriega and invasion), work and interactions with colleagues, logistics, travel details (modes of transportation, time of day), routes, expenses, daily activities, campsites, vegetation, terrain, weather (sometimes with time of day), collecting method, specimens collected (bats listing quantity and type), and discussions of current activities at Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute [STRI]. Includes loose inserts and photocopied maps with notes, and some list of Indian vocabulary words for numbers. Locations include Cayo Agua and Punta Alegre.
