Abstract

Black and white photographs of Paricutín Volcano were taken by Carl Fries, Jr., June 23, 1943 - July 29, 1945. Captions vary, but sometimes include date, photographer, description, individuals' names, and location. Subject matter includes a house in town of Paricutin covered by ash; detail images of the cone and bombs emitted from volcano; plumes of smoke; nighttime and daytime eruptions; town of San Juan with examples of structural damage; damage to San Juan cathedral; woods surrounding volcano ablaze from lava flows; colleagues and local staff at work. Includes enlargements and duplicates.
