Abstract

The notebook documents Theodore Reed's field work with bongo in Kenya, February - November 1968. Pages are numbered. In the front cover is an envelope of notes and receipts. Entries are dated and are a mix of fragmented notes and narrative entries describing observed or collected specimens (quantity, sex, common name), expenses, notes about animals wanted by London Zoo, individuals and their contact information, daily activities, travel details (mode of transportation, time of day, destinations), weather, collecting methods (types of traps), wildlife observed, meetings with colleagues, descriptions of colleagues, and details about bongo (including where observed, diet). Locations include a visit to new small mammal house at London Zoo and trip to Lok Naivasha, Kenya. Includes loose inserts.
