Abstract

The journal documents the field work of Norman Peterson for the Smithsonian Venezuelan Project, April 16 - June 30, 1968. There are three types of entries. Some are dated and contain numbered lists with quantity and type of traps used, type of net with time of day, quantity and type of specimen collected (identified with common name like "snake" or "rodent"), trap nites and net hours, weather and temperature, location information, specimen number range processed, and additional remarks about other work completed (including collecting). The "other" category provides location information for numbered collecting sites including descriptions of vegetation and terrain as well as tips on how to set up traps and nets. Some include hand drawn maps of collecting sites. Other entries are dated and describe daily travel and routes, activities, and interactions. Location information can include a combination of town, distance from, region, latitude and longitude, and altitude. Covers numbers 22098 - 23609; these appear to be sequential.
