Abstract

The black and white photographs and negatives were taken by Arno Brehme, and depict Paricutin Volcano, April 1943 - March, 1944. On the reverse side, photographs include a mixture of information, sometimes including the date, description, type of exposure, and vantage point. Subject matter includes lava and smoke emanating from the volcano (close and from a distance); slopes of volcano; Quitzoche ridge; birth and growth of the Zapicho flow; lava flows (including dates of flows); candid images of local inhabitants with the volcano in the background; vistas of damaged surrounding woods; parts of a panorama of Paricutin; and new houses for Nuevo San Juan. Includes duplicates.
