Abstract

This field book contains specimen lists with collector numbers 10001-10033 and diary entries Stejneger wrote during a collecting trip to Europe from 19 June to 7 August 1904. The specimen listed are small mammals such as voles, moles, and shrews and the list provides brief descriptions including sex and specific location. Other small mammals may also be listed and Stejneger's diary entries mention setting traps for mice. Stejneger's entries also provide rich descriptions of the natural surrounding in which he collected, often including the scientific names of nearby flora and comments on the weather conditions. Stejneger visits several locations within Switzerland including Lugano and Muzzano Lake, and possibly some locations in Italy.
