Abstract

The color slides taken by various individuals document field work completed as part of the Smithsonian Institution African Mammal Project, 1964 - 1970. Slides are organized in small boxes, and often labeled with location. Photographers include D. E. Harvey (Chinguetti, Akjoujt, Nouakchott, Kaedi, Kiffat, Passe Soufa, Aqui, Cher, Mauritania; Ranerou [Ranérou], Senegal; 1967); R. M. Davis in (Senegal during 1965 - 1966, South Africa during 1964 - 1965); and A. Hardy (Mozambique and South Africa during 1964). There are boxes of slides documenting Morocco (1969 - 1970); Uganda (1968); Gambia (1966); Mauritania (1967); and Dahomey [Benin] (1968). Captions vary in content, and include a combination of date, number, location, and subject matter. Subject matter includes game reserves, observed flora and fauna, local inhabitants, participants, and communities. Some images may duplicate cataloged black-and-white photographs.
