Abstract

The black-and-white photographs document the work of D. E. Harvey in Mauritania as part of the Smithsonian Institution African Mammal Project, 1966 - 1967. On the reverse side of the photographs are captions with location (including distance from or latitude and longitude), date, and sometimes subject matter (sometimes genus) and photographer. Subject matter includes habitat, a millet field, locations where specimens (type listed) were collected, observed wildlife (reptile), specimens collected (mammals), vegetation, and barbed wire fence at Fort Gouraud. Locations include Fort Gouraud [Fdérik], Kaedi, Tiguent, Zbeyat, and Aleg.
