Abstract

The black-and-white photographs document the work of D. E. Harvey in Mauritania as part of the Smithsonian Institution African Mammal Project, 1966 - 1967. On the reverse side of the photographs are captions with location (including distance from), date, and sometimes subject matter and photographer. Some photographs are without captions. Subject matter includes observed mammals, participants working in the field, vistas and detail images of habitat, Senegal [Sénégal] River, damaged automobile (car axle), structures (unidentified), and detail images of vegetation. Locations include Essaouira, Fort Gouraud [Fdérik], Nouakchott, Passe de Soufa, Aleg, Chinguetti.
