Abstract

Photographs were taken by A. C. Risser and Joe De Beers documenting their work for the Smithsonian Institution African Mammal Project, 1963 - 1964. On the reverse side of the photographs are captions covering photographer, subject matter, location, and sometimes date. Subject matter covers candid images of participants, colleagues, and inhabitants; campsites; local museums; vehicles in the field; mammal specimens collected with local trapper; Namib Desert Research Station; children; and fish traps in the water. Participants photographed include Piet Geldenhuys, Art Risser, Brian Wessels, Al Moore, Ron Cole, G. Hughes, and J. Dixon. Locations include South West Africa [Namibia]; South Rhodesia; Cape Province, South Africa.
